For Kenya’s fashion and leather industry, this development could strengthen the value chain by linking raw materials, skills, processing, and finished products more effectively at the county level. This could support local businesses, create jobs, promote value addition, and improve the competitiveness of Kenyan products.

As Kenya continues to position leather as a manufacturing and export opportunity, these proposed hubs represent another step towards building a more competitive domestic leather industry. From an African perspective, they could also contribute to strengthening regional value chains, supporting intra-African trade, and positioning Africa as a stronger producer of quality leather and leather products.
