Country Overview
Fashion Law in Cameroon.
Cameroon’s fashion industry, centred in Douala and Yaoundé, is known for its vibrant textiles, custom tailoring culture, and strong influence of traditional attire in modern fashion. The sector is largely driven by independent designers and informal enterprises, with growing visibility across regional and diaspora markets.
However, the industry operates within a fragmented and largely informal structure. Many fashion businesses function without formal registration, clear contracts, or regulatory compliance, exposing designers and artisans to payment disputes, copy issues, and limited legal protection. Cross-border trade barriers, inconsistent enforcement of standards, and limited access to structured financing and legal support further constrain growth.
FLI Africa's Cameroon Programme works with the local fashion community to build legal literacy, support formalisation, and advocate for policies that strengthen Cameroon’s creative sector while preserving its rich cultural identity.
